Nov 22, 2009

It was another early start to a Sunday, leaving around 7:30 for Delaware. We got some breakfast bagels on the way and ended up at Carousel Park a little after 9. It took us a little more time to find the tee for the first hole, but once we got there we met some guys that were happy to help us navigate. The course was really nice but the holes were long. The first two holes played near and over this pond. It was a little wet, making the discs slippery and we weren't doing great on the first few.

As the grass dried out and it got a little warmer, we started doing much better. The course played through the woods and back out into the open, where several holes were on huge, open greens. It looked like a regular golf course at points. Joanna and I each had some good and bad shots but it was a lot of fun overall.

Next, we found our way to White Clay Creek State Park and needed some help finding the disc golf course in general. Once we found it, it was a nice, short hole course, especially compared to the other one. It was pretty easy to find each hole, even though we played the same hole twice by accident because of how the trail loops. This one made up for some of our high scores at Carousel Park.

We put our discs away and headed out on one of the hiking trails. It took us on a large loop around the park. It wasn't that strenuous but it was a good walk. There were some very nice picturesque areas (which I'll post if/when I get my images from my laptop..) Joanna photographed some animal parts that had recently been removed and we came upon a very old car that was in the middle of the woods somehow. The hike lasted until sunset and we got back just in time for the park to close. We sat on the swings to rest for a bit and then I changed in the port-o-changing room.

We went downtown in Newark to Home Grown Cafe for dinner. It was a really nice little place with local art on the wall and a good vibe. We decided to split the pumpkin soup and veggie chili for appetizers since we couldn't decide. Both were really good and complete opposites of one another. Sweet and spicy. I got Forest Mushroom Mac and Cheese with delicious crunchy baked cheese on top. Joanna got the BBQ Seitan sandwich. All of the food was so good.

Since we've been getting dessert all the time, we couldn't resist their offer of "the best carrot cake you'll ever try!" I can't really argue with them on it either. It was pretty amazing. I guess I'll be trying carrot cake forever now thinking that it's just not the same. We went back to her place after dinner and hung out watching things, playing Scrabble and trying to do work.
