Jun 30, 2009

The beginning of my day was spent cleaning, running and playing a game of disc golf by myself. At around four, we met up at Jeff's and packed up the car to head to Philly for our first show in the city. We got to the North Star Bar right on time.

We had to load in onto the stage through the back door. We were pretty excited to be playing here since we've seen great bands play this stage before.

We didn't spend much time there, but we set up in the band area downstairs. Before our set we spent most of our time out in the bar eating veggie quesadillas, drinking beer and watching Curb Your Enthusiasm with closed captions. Still funny.

After the second band, Practically Single, who were really good, we set up and got ready to play. We played all of our usual originals to a decent crowd. It was a lot of fun to be playing that venue even if we weren't perfect. We did alright with ticket sales as well, according to the promoter.

We hung out for a while after our set while this guy hit on Katie. That was entertaining. He's a Star Trek fan.

Overall I'd say our first Philly show went pretty good. I had fun, ate good food, drank good beer and Sam got really drunk, even better! Hope we can play again some day.

Jun 29, 2009

I went up to Philly in the morning time and went to the PA License Center with Jen only to find out that they don't do licensing on Monday... only photos...? So we left center city and went back to her place for lunch with Stephen and Micah. I got a tasty falafel from around the corner with amazingly good fries. We hung out and watched Yo Gabba Gabba (cuz Micah made us..) for a couple of hours after lunch until I left to meet up with Chuck and Diebra.

We went to the Ritz to see Whatever Works with Larry David. I wasn't expecting much for whatever reason, but I really like this movie. You should see it. After the flick we stood outside talking for some time because of how nice the weather was. Good night, it was.

Jun 28, 2009

I got up in the morning with time to go to Parvin's for a run before my sister, Devin, Aiden and I went to my mom's for lunch. We had macaroni salad type stuff that Aiden decided was better to squish than to eat. After a while of my mom yelling in baby talk I decided to leave.

I went to Ryan's to take a walk before it started raining. After we walked for a bit, we came back to his aunt's to play a few rounds of darts. We are out of practice.. but it's barely a game. After that I came home to find my sister and Devin working on the house so we worked as a team on the kitchen and pretty much got it all done. It felt good. Two rooms down.. two cats and the rest of the house left...

Jun 27, 2009

I helped Devin with some more cleaning of the house in the daytime and we caught one of the cats that have been evading us for some time now (I'll let you guess where she is in the picture.)

I asked around to find out what was going on and ended up with just me and Tracy (just like old times) going to Philly and finding a bar. We went to Good Dog, a great bar that I had never been to before. I got a beer and a shot of Jameson as soon as I got there because it was just that kind of night. We got a seat and ordered some vegetarian food.. they have plenty of good stuff. They played Rancid, NOFX and Bad Religion on the stereo, which was a great surprise.

After more shots and more beers, it was last call and they were kicking us out.. so we had to go. I had a good time.. didn't really accomplish what I set out to do, quite the opposite actually, but I always have fun with Tracy so it was all good. It felt good to get into bed when I got home.

Jun 26, 2009

I woke up not feeling bad at all after drinking and decided I needed to go for a run at Parvin's. I walked around first just because I wanted to. It seems so much longer when I'm walking. I ran around and then spent some time just enjoying the weather and reading.

I went to Moe's later with Jeff and got my usual burrito that I couldn't finish.

I went to Jen's later and watched Finding Nemo because Micah wanted to... Ok maybe I wanted to as well. After he went to sleep we watched some Degrassi and talked for a while before I headed home.

The drive home wasn't too bad even though it was late. I wasn't that tired.

Jun 25, 2009

I played a game of disc golf with Ryan in the afternoon and spent more time cleaning up the house with Devin for a while after that.

Later, Jess invited me to have a drink with her and her dad at Bojo's. It was "sing-along" night which meant there were several microphones placed around the bar in case anyone wanted to chime in with whatever overplayed bar song was being crudely attempted by the keyboardist. I nodded along and continued drinking beers. Jen came by with Micah after a while. We all planned on doing something after the bar but no one had any ideas and then people started shuffling out and going home. The rest of the night consisted of tequila and Arrested Development.

Tequila.. ha.

Jun 24, 2009

It took a while and this is a lame update, picture wise... but here it is. I spent some of the morning cleaning and then gathered some things up and went to Rowan to sort out my financial aid situation. All taken care of now. It wasn't difficult, just a matter of handing in and signing some papers. After that I went to Philly to trade some things in and park for free because I didn't realize I could only use quarters in the parking meter... oops.

The rest of the night goes as follows: (more or less...) Went to Deptford Mall for a smoothie. Had sushi with Katie*. Watched some High Fidelity. Met Jen at the Oarhouse for some drinks. I had Blue Moon. Rum or daiquiri mix: which is worse to take a shot of? It's a toss up. Anyway, we talked while enjoying the nice weather outside away from the terrible DJ and people (most of them anyway.)

Good times.

Jun 23, 2009

Another day spent mainly cleaning. I have finished this room though, except for getting the boxes out that I filled with stuff we're saving. It should be ok once we take up the carpet and get the furniture out.

I did an outline I had to do and then got some papers that I needed for school before meeting the gang for Quizzo. Sam, Ali and Blake joined us this week for a pretty competitive game which we lost unfortunately. There was debate on a few questions. Maybe next time!

After the game everyone left but me and Chuck. We stayed at the bar until it closed down and then hung out outside in the awesome weather walking around and talking for a while. Three hours later, sober and a little tired, we headed home. It was a great night to end a boring day.

Jun 22, 2009

I really haven't done much lately... I played a game with Ryan and came close to getting my best game. I think Ryan scored his best game of 4. Not a bad day for either of us, just frustrating because we both missed some easy shots.

The rest of the night was spent cleaning and unearthing this closet. It will be my new closet once everything is situated and we do a bunch more work. It's huge and walk-in compared to my old small one. Should be nice.

Jun 21, 2009

Sometime in the morning/afternoon Chuck and I ventured to the course for a game. It's been a while since he has played but he scored his first deuce on hole 16, seen above. Nicely done, sir. Despite some early bad shots, I managed a -1.

I spent most of the rest of the day cleaning and came upon a bottle of tequila that I was ready to get into at that point.

Jeff was more than happy to come shopping with me at Super Walmart to get daiquiri mix. He made some good frozen drink that got stronger each time.

We got a little buzzed and watched War, Inc. I liked it even though I started falling asleep toward the end. It was a fun night though.

Jun 20, 2009

After spending the morning doing some more cleaning, I went to Serafina's with my grandmom for dinner. I ordered a small vegetarian stromboli and this is what I got. That's all I could eat too. It was really good just huge.

I wanted to do something so Chuck and I went to Hangar 84 where Blake's band, Where the Ocean Meets the Sky, was playing. We couldn't get in with our wristbands because there was a different booker for this show so we hung out in the back area with the bands and drank some Sam Adams that I picked up on the way. When they went on we hung out at stage left and watched from behind the scenes. They rocked as always.

I wasn't really ready to go home but I didn't have anything else to do so I came back home and looked for something until I finally gave up and spent the rest of the night at the computer before bed.

Jun 19, 2009

After originally deciding that I wouldn't be able to do it because I fell down the steps on the deck yesterday and hurt my knee.. I decided I'd be okay to walk around Union Lake with Ryan.

We had no real idea of where we were going.. we followed trails for the most part but we weren't sure where they were leading. We also were constantly pulling ticks off of ourselves and each other. In total we had 114. That's an insane amount of ticks.

After a few hours we came out on Sherman Avenue. We weren't expecting that.. but we walked down the road in the direction of the river and tried to find a path near the river but only found thick growth.

We decided to brave it and make our own path. This is a picture of one of the only solid areas we could stand on during this part of the walk. It was mainly marsh area where we were spending most of the time hopping over pools of water and standing precariously on tree roots and moss. It was a pain to get through the thick brush and eventually we decided that we couldn't get through easy enough to try, especially not knowing where we were going.

So we turned around and headed back and while trying to traverse one of the aforementioned pools of water, I stepped on a rotten log that crumbled under my foot causing me to lose my balance and sink up to my waist in the mud/water. While trying to get out, my other foot slipped in. I managed to get out while Ryan attempted to get to where I was to help. We found another path around and continued heading back to the road.

As we continued, Ryan met the same fate as I had just moments earlier at a different water crossing. We went to the river after we got out to the road to wash our legs off a bit. We walked down to the hospital to use the phone since my cell phone was killed when my waist pocket hit the water. Katie came and picked us up and dropped us off so we could clean up. It was a crazy walk and we didn't make it all the way around but it was a lot of fun.

Later at night, Katie and I went to the Random Tea Room in Philly. It was a really small tea house with a lot of different tea. It was kind of hard to really choose anything because the lights were really low and it was hard to read the menu. It was just as hard to hear the guy at the counter recite the names of teas because the musicians were playing loud, annoying music. Not a good experience. It seems like a cool little place if there were someplace to sit and less annoying musicians.

We came home after having some berry iced teas and that was that.

Jun 18, 2009

I spent the early part of the day trying to convince my friends and family that they wanted to come to the Argyle Gargoyle show at Hangar 84... didn't do great with that but we showed up at 4 to load in and turn on the rock. (pictured above)

After we went to Moe's for dinner we came back and set up our free stuff and made setlists while I made up our quota of tickets outside..

We ended up playing first because one of the bands dropped off but there were a good amount of people there.

We were having fun and the crowd was getting into it.

I think having the new versions of the songs to listen to really got me pumped for this show.

They sounded even better than before.

We were running around and sweating a lot by the end of the set.

Our last two songs went over really well and we didn't want to get off stage... well I didn't anyway.

We hung out by our stuff for a short time and gave people some information about us via quotes from historical figures.

We spent some time chilling in the green room. I had a microwaved bagel with veggie cheese on it. It was delicious.

We watched Socratic play their set. They are really good. I need to listen to them some more.

We had some carrots and hummus in the green room and enjoyed the comfortable leather couch for a while before checking out Punchline and leaving. Thanks for coming out everyone! I'm looking forward to the North Star show now!
