Aug 21, 2008

Another early day had us driving to Great Adventure in the morning. There was a long line of traffic on the way in, driving and at the ticket booth. Once we made it in, however, we headed straight to Nitro. It's a great ride.

We went to check out the Northern Star Arena where Good Charlotte was playing at night to find out when the doors opened.

We didn't get to do much besides eat before we joined this "line." We waited for a little while until they let us in, checked the place out and then got our hands stamped and went back to the park.

We got on Batman the Ride and checked out the superhero shop.

We got on Rolling Thunder, a ride that lives up to its name in shakiness.

We made our way back to the arena in time for Metro Station followed by Good Charlotte, who we came to see. They put on a good show but the crowd was awful. Even if anyone did dance or jump, the security would kick them out.

Boys Like Girls played last. They were alright, their cd is much better than the live performance.

We ran back to Nitro at the end of the show to find it closed and then decided it was time to get out of there.

We planned to go to the Atlantic City Air Show today, but after looking at the schedule, I figured I would be unimpressed and it would be very crowded, so we just went to Philly. We got falafel at Maoz, delicious.

We walked around the city and took some pictures, but didn't really do much other than that. We came back to South Street and went to Paddy's for a drink at happy hour.

The Yeungling was especially good for some reason.

We were supposed to go to a sushi cooking class but realized when we got there that we already knew all we needed to about making sushi. Katie wanted to get her tragus pierced so we went back to Infinite and got it done.

She wasn't sure how much she liked it.

She'll come around to it though. I think it looks good.

On the way home, the sky looked amazing so I took a quick exit in Gloucester and found a spot on an overpass to get some pretty awesome silhouette shots of the city and the beautiful sky.

As we went looking for other vantage points, we ended up at the Camden Waterfront so we got some pictures there. When I got close to the bridge I noticed I could hear a band just starting their set across the river. I soon realized it was Good Charlotte playing at Festival Pier. We sat and listened to their whole show and decided we wanted to go see them soon.

We came back home after a long day in the city and I just relaxed until it was bedtime. I have been going to bed quite early relative to my usual late night/early mornings.

Jeff picked me up in the earlyish morning time and we headed down to Ocean City. We met up with Katie at the shuffleboard club to play a game. We met Al, a member of the club that got there too late to join the tournament, who taught us the right way to play. We played three games, ending with me and Katie beating Al and Jeff.

After getting some cheap shuffleboard club grub, we went down to the beach where we thought we'd play volleyball. I changed into my bathing suit and we went to meet up with the cousins.

We went in the ocean for a while and the water was amazing. It was cold at first, but much better than the last time I went. Katie's cousins and sister didn't feel like playing volleyball, so we just headed back to the car after we got some water.

We picked up Ryan when we got back to town and went to the park to play some volleyball. It was me, Katie and Irina vs Jeff and Ryan. They beat us. It was fun most of the time though.

After everyone got showered, we came back to Katie's for a sushi party. Jeff got to be the one that fanned the rice this time. It's a newbie job.

Most everyone got to make their own rolls if they wanted.

I decorated the table with chopsticks.

I made smoothies and we sat down to eat. It was delicious as always. Sam learned to make vegan spicy tuna sushi and everyone seemed to really like what they got.

We sat around after eating and watched some It's Always Sunny before deciding to head out. It was a good time with good food.

We started off our day pretty early today when Jeff met me at my house, then we went to pick up Ryan. We went and played the Landis course first, then we went to Bob Evans for breakfast. I planned on getting crepes but ended up with sausage gravy, I couldn't resist.

We went to the Crystal Lakes course after we ate. Ryan lost a disc in the water by hole 17, but he was able to locate it. We also found a few other discs around that area where the pond had dried up.

When we got back to the parking lot, a group of people asked us if we'd like to join them for a game of volleyball.

How could we resist? It was probably the most fun I've had all summer.

Later, Katie and I went to Philly where she tried learning to skate at FDR park. There were too many people on the skate park to try there, but she did pretty well in the parking lot.

We went to Maoz and got falafel, it was my first time.

I really liked it.

Once Sam, Jeff and Chuck met up with us at the Troc, we went in for Movie Monday.

I used my drink chip to get a "Project Mayhem." I just had to get it for the name.

Fight Club was great, of course. It was cool seeing it on a big screen for the first time. It just made me more excited for Choke.

It was a great day outside, so I got on my bike and rode around. I rode into Vineland and up to Landis Avenue. I headed back down the boulevard to the disc golf course and rode the trails around there for a little while. While I waited to meet people for a game, I practiced putting a bit and then sat down to cool off.

Nate, Chuck, Ryan and Carissa showed up after a while and we played our game. Carissa did pretty well for her second time playing. I scored my new best game of -19! Or -1 on par 3 which is the actual par for the course!

Later, a potentially big poker game ended up being just me, Dave, Chelsea, Jeff and Jordan. We played for a few hours, I wasn't too far up or down at any point and I cashed out with my buy-in.

I was really tired after all of the day's activities so I couldn't wait to go to sleep.

Aug 16, 2008

I went over to the course to play a round by myself today and found that the basket for hole 3 was gone. I noticed a while ago that a new path had been cut that looked like it could be for a new hole, so I went back and checked it out.

Sure enough, there was a new hole but the basket hadn't been put up yet. I later found out that they moved it because that hole was on private property and liability reasons. Nate came out and played a round with me after I finished my solo. I did okay both times, not great.

Later on we went to Coffee dot Comedy. I was happy to find out they do have computers inside for the internet, otherwise I would have argued the dot Com part of their name.

Jenell and the Yets (minus Jimmy) played an acoustic set in the coffee house. I haven't seen them in a while and they were really good. I need to go to more of their acoustic shows.

After the show, we went to the La Costa Deck Bar and had a bunch of Yeunglings after deciding that Coors Light was just no good. It was a beautiful night out and the beers were tasty.

After a short lived walk on the beach and boards, we headed home, stopping for a pretzel to make me feel a little better on the way. Great weather, great music, great night.

Aug 15, 2008

In the morning, I went over to the Looking Glass and picked up smoothies for most of us. Then I picked up Chuck, Katie and Ryan and headed to Fairmount Park.

We played the entire 27-hole Sedgeley Disc Golf Course. It was confusing finding the later holes at times, but overall the course was a lot of fun. I actually scored a -23 on par 4, so I did pretty well. We found and lost a disc, but then I found another.

We were famished by the time the game was over so we went to Whole Foods and got some lunch. Then we headed home in rush hour traffic.

Later on I got a salad from Applebees and relaxed at home for a bit. Katie and I went back up to Philly to check out some bars, but the one I planned on stopping at was overcrowded with a line at the door and most of the other ones looked that way too.

We didn't end up going to a bar, just walking around for a little bit and talking. I guess this is why I don't go to bars on Friday nights. I just needed a reminder.
