Oct 31, 2010

I got up in the morning and finished The Bourne Identity and then proceeded to wait around hoping to go somewhere to take photos. Eventually I decided to go to Cape May. I stopped along the way to take some shots and then I got down there and shot at the lighthouse for a while. I walked along the beach as the sun was going down, doing more walking than shooting.

That was pretty much the entirety of my day. I watched Dexter among other things when I got home and then went to sleep.

Oct 30, 2010

I went to the doctor's office in the morning so I could get my physical so I could sign up for my last semester of classes. I waited in this little room for about 45 minutes. I felt like I was going a little crazier than I already felt. The exam itself took about ten minutes and I could finally leave.

I went for a run at the course after having lunch and later met Chuck to see Jackass 3D. Yeah, those aren't sunglasses. The movie was really funny and just like I expected it to be but the 3D portion didn't live up to my hopes. Worth seeing but save your money and see the regular version.

I went to my mom's and had some dinner after the movie while talking about things that were going on. I came home after that and spent the rest of the night watching The Social Network and part of The Bourne Identity.

Oct 29, 2010

I didn't get a job so I went up to school to put some work into my website. I feel like I make minor changes but I can't get the overall concept done. I had some lunch and then I went home.

Later I picked up Britney and we headed to Philly for the Anberlin show.

We got there for the end of Civil Twilight and then watched the Crash Kings. Anberlin came out to the opener of their new CD and got right into an awesome set.

They played a whole lot of new songs and I love the new album but I would really have like to have heard more old songs as well. The problem with loving all of a band's songs is that you can never be fully satisfied with the set because you want to hear them all.

After finishing with some crowd pleasers they came out for the encore to play "*fin." I was happy with that ending but there were definitely a few songs I was surprised they didn't play.

We met up with Jen and Jess after the show to walk back to our car and then we parted ways and headed home.

After deciding not to go to class and stay in bed through the morning, I decided the day was too nice to waste. I started playing a game of disc golf at the course but I couldn't even play. I just went to the bench at hole three and laid on it, listening to music and looking up at the trees. I probably stayed there for the better part of an hour just staring. I didn't feel like doing anything at all but it was nice to be outside.

Later that evening I went to Philly with Chuck for a house show for Gardening, Not Architecture. After going to Bishop's Collar for The Quesadilla, we went to the house. We were early for the show even though we were an hour late and the guy at the door said we could hang out in the back. We assumed there would be other people out there but we found this empty yard instead. There was no light on when we first walked out.

We spent some time in the yard, mostly alone, and then went inside to see the first band. We stayed outside for the duration of the next reggae band. We seemed to be the only people at the party who didn't know the group or live there. We talked to Sarah from GNA outside for a while. She was very friendly and talkative. We went inside together to watch a guy from the band 100 Acre Woods play acoustic.

Sarah set up her stuff and then turned the lights out to play six songs. It was a short set but all of her stuff was really good. The people in the crowd were drunk and annoying but she was very passionate about her songs and sang well.

We talked to her for a while after the show and got an awkward picture.

After the most confusing and backwards exit of Philly that I have ever experienced, we headed back toward home.

Oct 27, 2010

I sat unhappily through Type class as we did a ton of exercises involving our initials. Some were just horrible looking. Some of them produced some nice results. I had a love/hate relationship with these exercises because I can't stand doing them because of the way she sets them up but they do get results sometimes. I wish it was less like a work camp though.

I went to Nick's with Brian and Matt after class to get food. I got an eggplant parm sandwich and we all got really into watching Lingo on the TV.

I didn't feel like sticking around to go to the opening at night so I came home. I didn't do anything besides go for a run later. I ran 5.6 miles this time in a big circle through Millville. It seemed a little longer than that but it was a good run that started in the rain.

Oct 26, 2010

I engaged in the first good discussion in quite a while in my art history class about Joseph Kosuth and his philosophy regarding art. I really like him and I had a lot to say. I wish the class was like this more often. I had my meeting with Keith and then we did our Portrait class thing. I feel like we made some progress there as well. In Web Design we learned some new things in Dreamweaver and spent some time working on our sites. Mine is in the process of changing a lot.

Quizzo later. I wasn't much help. I had a Caesar salad. Chuck was officially propositioned as a groomsman. Then we discussed debauchery and bachelor parties.

Ryan met me at home for a walk around the neighborhood and then I came home to sleep.

Oct 25, 2010

When I got up I had to finish writing the paper I had started. It didn't take that long and I do my best work at the last minute anyway. Writing anyway. I came to school to finish printing and arranging my Typography problem to hand in. We spent some time in class talking about our color versions and getting started on the next problem. We just jump right in. It's serious.

I came home for a while and did the usual before going up to the Deptford theater with Chuck to see Back to the Future. It was a 25th Anniversary screening. It was nice to watch it on the big screen, especially since I hadn't seen it in years. There were a few obnoxious people in the theater but it was a good experience.

Chuck suggested Mexican Monday at Landmark so we dropped in. I had a few Coronas and a quesadilla. Our waitress let Chuck run the show and either didn't care if I wanted anything else or just assumed that I did. Sports were on TV.

I retreated under the covers for rest of the night when I got home.

Oct 24, 2010

I spent the majority of my day at Westby with Katie working on my typography assignment and writing a paper. Brian and Matt stopped by for a while but they were much further into their assignment than I so they came and left while I was still working.

I came home with some work left to do but I decided to leave it for the morning. I spent the rest of the night watching The Mentalist and Dexter.

Oct 23, 2010

Jeff, Sam, Jordan and I met up in the morning and headed to New York. On the way up we played Mad Libs and stopped a few times along the way until we got to the train station.

We went into Brooklyn and found our way to the Brooklyn Brewery. We had to wait for the next tour so everyone grabbed a beer and stood around taking pictures and trying to get the attention of the cat sitting on the bags of wheat.

It started to get really crowded just before the hourly tour was going to start and we followed the crowd out when they announced our group.

We went to another part of the brewery where we could see a few kegs and some construction equipment inside. We were informed by our "tour guide" that the place was being renovated so we can't go see anything but instead he'd tell us about the history of the brewery. So he did. And that was all he did. That was the tour. It was as anticlimactic as it sounds.

Speaking of anticlimactic, we went to get food after the big tour and decided to call the venue to find out what time Me First and the Gimme Gimmes would be playing so we knew how much time we had to get there. It turned out they weren't playing until 11:30 and there was no way we'd be able to see them and make it back before the last train. After some deliberation we decided to sell our tickets in front of the venue, which only took about a half hour, and then go to some bars. It was kind of annoying since we came up for that show but we made the best of it.

After a few drinks at a small bar we returned to Brooklyn Brewery so they could use the rest of their beer chips. We got there just as they called last call and had our beer while listening to a playlist from the late 90's.

We stopped at a place on Bedford called Mug's where they had a giant beer list. It was a lot of really good beer too. Everyone else got food and I ate the leftovers. Jordan had a veggie burger that tasted like stuffing. Not in a bad way; I liked it.

We talked about Sam and Jeff's wedding plans and the things we might plan to do for the bachelor party. I didn't mention it on here yet but I was officially asked to be the best man at the wedding. I'm kind of a big deal now.

We got on the subway and came back to Manhattan where we found this bar at Union Square. We had a couple more drinks there and got into some deep conversations.

After we left we decided to walk back to Penn since it was such a beautiful night. The weather was perfect for a walk in the city. I stopped to take a few shots but I mostly just enjoyed the atmosphere.

We caught a train just before it left and got back to the car. The ride home seemed long because I was so tired. I fell asleep for a while in the backseat and got right back to it once I was dropped off.

Oct 22, 2010

At least I got a job for one of the two days I was supposed to work. I was a Choir teacher at Memorial, where the instructions were to watch Sister Act and Sister Act 2. I had never seen either of them so it wasn't too bad sitting there and watching with the kids. It was a pretty quick and easy day.

I was not feeling great after work so I came home and went into the normal routine of sitting in front of the computer and taking a nap. When I got up later I was not feeling any better and I just felt like I had to go for a run. I'm glad I checked the time I started because I ran for much longer than I expected. I had a lot on my mind. I ended up running 10.7 miles through Millville in 1 hour 33 minutes. That's actually a faster pace than I ran my 10k. I was happily surprised and I feel much better about the half marathon now.

I wanted to take photos after my run so I drove out to East Point Lighthouse and took some shots of the building. I got some nice ones. I took shots at the water too and then I sat there on the beach for a while thinking and watching the stars. No shooting stars this time.

I came home just wanting to sleep. That makes me feel better for a while.

Oct 21, 2010

I got a call on my way to work in the morning telling me I didn't need to come in anymore so I went home hoping to get another job, but that never happened. I went to Web class later where we critiqued our designs for the entire class. It seemed endless. I went to the Student Center and got a chai tea which I enjoyed during the GSA meeting. I left early because they were rehearsing an event that I wasn't taking part in.

I hung out at Westby waiting for Mark's show to start and had to go outside on three separate occasions because the fire alarm went off again. Finally it was time for the opening to start so I went down there, where a moderate amount of people showed up to look at the photos.

This is my favorite one there. Except for the missing apostrophe. We hung out there for a while eating the five layer dip and chips while we talked.

I came home right after the opening and spent the night watching shows. Exciting.

Oct 20, 2010

After getting some work done on our current type assignment I went to class. The professor that is taking over the class next semester was in to help critique our pieces. After looking at some identity designs to get ready for the next project we talked about our current work for the last time before it was due.

I went to talk to Vaccaro about my schedule for next semester and it turns out I only have to take five classes instead of six. The only problem is I went to sign up for some classes and fix my schedule and found out there was a hold on my account for some health documents that they don't have somehow even though I've been taking classes here for three years.

I went to get sushi with Chuck at Kawa later that night. We both got the Halloween roll, which is filled with a bunch of stuff and topped with jalapenos and wasabi sauce. It was really good. They also have mochi now so we both got some of that before leaving.

I went downtown to shoot some pictures near the river because it was foggy and the lights looked nice on the drive home. It had mostly cleared up by the time I got there but I like some shots I took.

I came home to do some writing and watched Modern family before bed.
