Aug 9, 2009

We were supposed to start Katie's birthday celebration at 7am but it was raining hard so we had to push it back a few hours. That ended up working out really well since we both wanted to sleep some more. I picked her up around noon and we headed to Ocean City to get "breakfast" smoothies. They were okay. You can't get a good smoothie around here unless you make it yourself.

I took her to the first surprise and we picked up our boarding passes for the parasail boat.

The boat took us out of the inlet and out into the Atlantic off the coast of Ocean City.

After explaining the rules and safety info, they inflated the parachute and we got pulled out above the water. We went pretty high up and it was quite calm up there. We could see schools of stingrays swimming just below the surface of the water. It was awesome. We kept looking for dolphins because we saw them a few times while we were on the boat.

They dropped us down and splashed us in the water once to get us wet before pulling us back in.

It was definitely a fun experience and the guy who took pictures for us did a really good job, I think. There were a few more groups of people that went up before we headed back to the dock. I only felt a little sick this time, not like when I was in Hawaii. Katie seemed to enjoy it too.

We headed up the Expressway to Philly, stopping at a rest stop on the way to change into dry clothes. We went to the Abbaye for lunch. We both got BBQ Seitan that was amazing. I had some more sweet potato fries as well. I was really full after eating my first actual meal of the day.

We got a beer at a pizza/beer place (genius) before meeting Chuck and Diebra at the First Unitarian Church to see Jonah Matranga in the chapel. It was a really great performance, he played a lot of good song and it was an intimate performance just like last time with no mics or speakers. Just Jonah, an acoustic guitar, robot noises and a little girl that became part of most of the songs with her singing, dancing and questions.

We grabbed some merch after the show and talked to Jonah. He's always the nicest guy and he took a picture with all of us.

It rained while we were inside, cooling it down and leaving us with beautiful weather and a beautiful sky when we exited the church.

The four of us went to the Bubble House where I reserved a table and we met Jeff, Sam and Jordan for dinner. We got some bubble tea and probably the best meal I've had ever. It was a curry vegetable Seitan bowl. I want to go back for more right now. Amazing. We were there for a couple of hours, eating, drinking bubbles and talking. It was a good way to end a busy day.

We went and checked into our hotel, the Windsor Suites, where we once checked out the rooms and roof pool under the ruse of preparing for a bachelor party.

I was ready to get some sleep after the long day of activities, especially knowing there was more the next day.
