Ryan and I departed in the morning, avoiding most of the Sunday traffic on the way to Valley Forge. We got some maps and found the parking area closest to the trailhead we needed and began our hike of Mount Joy. It began after about a mile of multi-use trail and then climbed somewhat steeply up from the road.
The first bit was somewhat strenuous but once it leveled off it wasn't too much at all. It was a nice area to walk through but it seemed to go by pretty quickly. The trails were well-established but horribly marked. The maps weren't much help.
After making our own way to the end of the trail and walking the wrong directions a few times, we found the covered bridge that would cross us over to the second part of our hike. Not many opportunities for good photos here.
We came to the trailhead for Mount Misery and began our climb, hoping that it would be somewhat more exciting that Mount Joy.
It was mildly strenuous as well but overall lacking in the excitement department. There were some interesting things to see like this ruins of an old factory. The trail didn't provide any real challenges for us besides finding our way at intersections that were completely unmarked. We finally made our way to the end of the trail and back to the car where we happily departed with no plans to return.
We stopped for some food on the way home and once we got home and changed shoes, we played some tennis. We had some really good games, especially in the second set. I think it was one of the best games we've had in a while. We played until it got too dark to see the ball and unfortunately there aren't any lights at the college courts.
On my way home I stopped at the lake and took some shots of what was left of the sunset. Some of them came our really good for getting there late.
