Oct 17, 2010

Ryan and I went up to Camelback Mountain in the Poconos where we got our harnesses and got ready for the Adventure Zipline course.

We got a demo on how to use our harness and how to always stay clipped in to the safety line and then we were sent on our way to do the course on our own. The first obstacles were a little tricky, like walking on wires and maneuvering around poles.

The obstacles got more challenging as we went along. This one was probably the most awkward of the entire day. The wood swings hung by themselves making it hard to grab the next one and stabilize yourself moving from one to the other.

Once we remembered how to get into the zipline we took our first zip across. It was a lot of fun of course.

After a while the ziplines became less of a crazy fun thing and more of a way to get to the other side. And also a relief since we started getting behind some people.

We ended up behind a large group of people that insisted on taking forever at each obstacle and shaking the bridges as their friends crossed. On the third course (they got progressively harder and higher off the ground between courses) we had to wait at least a few minutes on each platform because of them. There are handy pictures in case you don't know how to do the obstacle, represented by this guy who appears to be the opposite of a quadruple amputee.

There were some funny, slightly awkward obstacles like this barrel thing that we had to slide through. I went headfirst and it was really hard to get out at the end.

This one was interesting because the poles swing from side to side and the safety line runs down the middle so you have to duck under it and switch sides as you progress. The guy in front of us sat down and couldn't get back up so the guide had to go up and lower him down. Thanks again for holding us up.

One of the last action obstacles was a hover board type thing that we had to lean forward on to slide across the gap. It was a lot of fun. I wish I could have done that more than once.

Before we got to the final zipline there was a really nice view out over the mountain. The leaves were changing all over the course and this was a good shot of it.

Once we climbed down the last long ladder, which was one of the most frustrating things because you have to keep clipping and unclipping your safety line every two steps, we got to the last zipline. It was the longest one on the course and it took us back to the beginning. The whole thing was a lot of fun and we're trying to come back again soon. We got some much needed food at a Chinese buffet and then headed home.

I went up to Rowan to work on type work after I dropped off Ryan. I got food with Joanna when I got there and we were in the computer lab working and talking until about 4am when I finally came home and passed out.
