Feb 28, 2010

We all met up at the buses near the Student Center early in the morning in preparation for our ski trip. After loading up the bus and waiting for a few last minute inspections, we left only about twenty minutes late.

Once we all suited up, booted up and found a locker (finally,) we got out on the slopes. It was Joanna's first time ever skiing and she did really well. She picked it up pretty quickly. Maybe I'm just that good at teaching?

We had to bring the gnome along as well to ride the lift up with us. He stayed in my pocket after that.

I took Joanna on a blue trail for her second run since she did so well on the first one. She did just as well on that one.

Josh snowboards in jeans. He doesn't just sit in the center of the trail, he relaxes.

Mike and I did a more difficult trail together but the conditions weren't great so it wasn't as fun. Turning tightly over moguls isn't as easy with a hurt ankle either.

It was Laura's first time skiing as well. She seemed to be doing pretty well also and having fun. We spent a lot of our time over on Paradise. There were a lot of people there so wherever we went was crowded.

We all managed to stay together most of the day. We took a break in the afternoon to get lunch at the lodge. We had the veggie sandwiches left over from the night before and it was nice to take a break and make some videos in the cafeteria.

We went back out for quite a while. It started snowing/raining a little bit toward the end of the night and got much colder. We stayed out until we had to meet up at the bus though. We got a good long day of skiing out of it. The sky looked really nice at the end of the day as well.

We got back on the bus and had to wait for people who took their time getting back. We stopped at a rest stop for food on the way back and had a good ride home. It was a long fun day and I was exhausted after. I need to go more before the season is over.

Feb 27, 2010

I awoke to a mysterious text about a gallery meeting at Westby so I gather some photos to bring with me and went there. We were just going over all the submissions and figuring out which would make it into the publication so I knew what pieces I had to photograph. We didn't get a lot done but we plan to finish later this week.

I was starving after the meeting since I hadn't eaten anything so we went and got a stuffed crust pizza loaded up with veggie toppings. It was delicious. After we ate, we worked on applications and homework before Joanna went to work.

I went to After Hours for a while and watched an acapella group do their covers of popular songs. They were called Blue Jupiter. They were pretty good from what I saw.

We spent the next hour or so playing games like Guess Who and Trivia for Dummies, which really doesn't exaggerate with its name. We got veggie subs and then I headed back.

I watched some Weeds and did some writing when I got back. Now it's time to sleep before the trip tomorrow...

Feb 26, 2010

I worked at Lakeside as it snowed like crazy outside. There was a delay so it was nice to be able to sleep in before going to work. The day wasn't too bad. It was fairly lax since it was basically a snow day.

I picked up Joanna and went to see Cop Out after work. It was pretty hilarious, I'd watch it again. It was certainly not a Kevin Smith movie but it definitely had a different feel to it.

We came back to Rowan and after a while I headed to the Student Center for Frozen Friday. They had a heated tent and an ice skating rink.

I had some food with Andrew, Laura and Mike and then we tried out the "ice" skating. It was not easy.

The fake ice was hard to skate on. I couldn't glide and I almost fell a lot. I never actually fell but I didn't spend that much out there because it wasn't much fun.

The next activity was turkey bowling. It was exactly what it sounds like. We bowled with a frozen turkey in a bag. Not as easy as it sounds.

We entered the tournament later in the night and competed fiercely. Andy reluctantly bowled his turkey.

The final score ended with Andy ahead of me and the person I tied. He won the gift cards and got to take the turkey home!

I picked up the license plate that I made and came back to watch Weeds before sleeping time.

Feb 25, 2010

I covered classes for meetings at Lakeside in the morning. It was declared a half day because of the "impending snow storm" that never came. It snowed a bit in the morning but it was clear for the rest of the day. I was out of there by noon. Not a bad day of work. I went home and took a nice long nap.

After napping I went to Katie's for tea. I don't drink tea enough. The snow had started coming down a lot harder and it looked really awesome outside.

I went up to Rowan After Hours and jumped right in to decorate my cake.

I decorated it poorly but this was how it turned out. I like it but I didn't spend that much time on it. I left it in the office for people to eat if they wanted to.

I got my gnome's picture with the fake snake since I missed the real things. I didn't know the guy would be leaving early or I would have come earlier. I still got my photo so it worked out for that at least.

Christina and I spent the next while in the game room playing air hockey, foozball and skee ball. We wasted quite a bit of time in there until it was time for the raffle, in which I won a Subway gift card.

I made a sandwich with a biscuit, onions, pickles and cheese. I had to be resourceful with the chicken and biscuits they were offering.

It was a pretty good night and we got back late. Had to get to sleep in case I had to wake up early.

Feb 24, 2010

Art History II was the same as usual: filled with information that I'm not sure will be on the test. I spent the time after that burning discs for class and hurrying to get some things done before going to the Live Events meeting. We went over a few upcoming events and then I got some food to take back to Photojournalism.

The class wasn't so bad; we watched a couple of videos about photojournalists in action and then looked at our event assignments and more photos from Jerry's portfolio.

We critiqued the box for this week in Sculpture. It was an interesting idea, fairly well executed. I like the design of it.

I got started on the metal part of my snail sculpture. I thought it was going to be really difficult but it ended up being pretty simple.

Within the one class the snail was coming together nicely by the end of class. I really like the way it's looking and I have a few more classes to finish it so I hope it ends up looking awesome.

I ran home after class to band practice. We got through one more song and worked on a few of the old ones again. It's coming along slowly and hopefully we'll be picking up the pace in the next few weeks.

It was an early night since I had to work in the morning. I was tired anyway.

Feb 23, 2010

I subbed for Erika's music classes in the morning, starting at Lakeside. It was an easy day, consisting of one class at Lakeside, followed by a big break since I couldn't do individual lessons, then I sat in the auditorium at Memorial while the kids watched Phantom of the Opera or did sudoku puzzles.

I went to Joanna's right after work and Chuck met up shortly after and we headed to IHOP. It is National Pancake Day (not sure if that's just an IHOP thing or if it's national for real..) and that means free pancakes! They were delicious and came quick. I'm sure they have a giant stack of them in the back waiting for people. Maybe not, they would be gross if they sat out very long.

We continued driving west toward Lancaster until we arrived at the Chameleon Club. We got in just in time to see Fireworks play most of their set. They were good again.

We saw Hellogoodbye this time, who we missed in AC (well, I wouldn't say we missed them... they were really good bread bowls..) They were okay. I don't really listen to them at all but I know a few songs.

Saves The Day was great again, maybe even better in a small venue like this. The crowd was into it and they played a lot of good older songs, including "Sell All My Old Clothes..." So good.

New Found Glory hit us with a second dose of their full self-titled album. They played the same encore set as well but it still great and the crowd was really reacting, albeit less violently than the last few times I've seen this band. It was a nice change.

We spent the drive home talking about what we might do in the future for disc golf trips and singing songs from previous trips. Gooood times.

Feb 22, 2010

I was up early and went to my Art History class late only to find out that it had been canceled and I forgot about it. So that worked out. I went and got vegan hot dogs and fries to bring back to Photojournalism class for our lunch. They were good. We showed our event photos in class but the discs we used to burn didn't have any information on them. I guess it's the program. At the end of class, we played Scrabble while looking at more images.

In Sculpture, I had to present on Christian Boltanski, an installation artist. To represent his type of work, I used clothing on the floor and blurred photographs to symbolize people who have died or gone missing and memorialize them in some way. The presentation went pretty well, I think. I like this artist.

The rest of the time in class was spent carving the final bits of plaster off of my snail to make him the same size at the wax one. It took a lot of time but it's finally the right size and looks very similar to my first one. Now I have to make a giant metal one..

I met Chuck, Jeff and Dan at my house for Argyle Gargoyle practice/drummer tryout. We played a few of our tunes and just jammed a bit on other stuff. It worked out really well overall. Dan picked up on the songs quickly and added his own style to some of them. We should actually be ready to play a show in a month.

Pulling out of the driveway, Dan slid in the snow and backed over the logs along the edge. He got stuck and brought his Jeep back to pull himself off. When that didn't work, my neighbor, who works for AAA, came over and tied a chain to it from his truck and yanked him back out. It was quite an ordeal.

I went to talk to my sister for a little while and had some food before bed. I tried working on some writing but didn't have any luck.
