Jan 15, 2010

I picked up Joanna in the morning and we took the train to the city and then the subway to Brooklyn. After a brief walk through Prospect Park, we found what was supposed to be the first tee for the disc golf course.

After searching all over this open field for quite some time, we finally came upon the two submerged bricks (that may have been orange at one point in time) in the ground and started our game.

The tees were just spray=painted dots with the numbers on them so we basically followed our map around the course. I liked a lot of the ideas used for tees and targets though.

Speaking of the targets, it's one of the things I was interested in/excited for about this course. There are no baskets so we aimed for objects in the park like trees, poles and water fountains. It made it a different kind of fun.

The course was fairly long and we could hardly tell we were in Brooklyn, let alone that close to Manhattan.

We didn't have much trouble with pedestrian traffic either until the very last hole that shot down a path that just wouldn't empty after I took my shot. Finally, Joanna was able to shoot and hit the third and final water fountain target.

The course was a lot of fun to play, the only issue i have is with a few of the submerged brick tees. They're hard to find. Otherwise, we had fun with the targets and we both made some really good shots.

We took a subway back to Manhattan and met Nathan at S'Mac, a "gourmet" macaroni and cheese restaurant. We got a cajun vegetable plate. It came in this skillet and it was delicious. How could it not be; first, it's macaroni and cheese and second, we hadn't eaten anything all day basically. We managed to finish that whole skillet somehow..

We walked down to the Cake Shop to go to a show where tickets were supposed to be on sale at the door. We were told to wait in line outside the door, which was basically just a large mass of people. The tickets were sold out; we later found out that there had been pre-sale tickets available on certain bands' sites but not linked at all on the venue site. Brilliant.

We came in and sat around in the upstairs lounge area for a while listening to the bass drum below us from the bands playing. We went back to the guy who gave us information earlier in the night to see if we could get in eventually and he told us to line up and pay at the basement door to go down. We went and paid the same price as the door even though two bands had played already.

We went downstairs and, unfortunately, one of the first bands had dropped off so the band I wanted to see, United Nations, had played second instead of third so I already missed them. Blacklisted and The Hope Conspiracy played in this crowded, small basement room. I couldn't see any members from any band, just a sea of people as far as I could see. I stayed downstairs for parts and went back up to cool off at times.

After the show, we did a lot of walking and then a lot of waiting for subway trains that were on different schedules. After even more waiting on the tracks of the transit train because of construction, we got back to the car and drove home. We hung out and talked for a while before calling it a night and going to bed. This was technically the next morning but I mean, just look at my hair.
