Aug 25, 2008

I got up feeling great after getting some real rest and counted how much Canadian money I had left.

Before leaving, I had to go check out the gorge down the river from the falls right outside of the hotel we stayed at.

While I did that, Katie ate a small apple from a tree by the road.

After trying an icewine candy at a store downtown, we decided to go tour a winery so we could try the candy's namesake.

We took the tour, which started us in the vineyard to see the almost-ready-to-be-picked grapes.

Next we saw the inside of the winery, where the grapes are stored after picking to be juiced and ferment.

Then we headed to the coolest part of the tour, visually at least, which was the wine cellar.

Hundreds of barrels are stored in the cellar and that's only the small room for tours! Each barrel holds hundreds of bottles worth of wine also!

The next stop was the wine tasting. We learned how to properly look at, smell and drink a wine to determine how good it really is.

We had a red wine, a white and finally the icewine we had been waiting for. It was very sweet, but extremely tasty. It would be hard to drink much of it though.

After the tour, we changed our money and headed for the border. It was a long wait, but the border guard was a lot nicer than the last one we had to deal with.

We didn't go far before we stopped at Joseph Davis Park, where there is a very nice disc golf course.

We only played 19 of 27 holes, but it was a cool park with some unique holes. I wanted to steal this sign.

We were on our way home now, but not before we stopped in Buffalo at the Falafel Bar. The falafel came in a wrap rather than a pita, but it was awesome. It was a really nice little place.

We got smoothies to go and headed off on the long drive back home. It actually seemed shorter this time with me driving. I got tired towards the end so we turned on It's Always Sunny hooked up through the car speakers, which made it much easier to stay awake since I was laughing all the time. It still felt good to get in bed at home.
