Aug 24, 2008

I couldn't sleep much in the car, but I woke up from a nap to this scene on the highway and stayed up for the most part after that. We did take a break and nap for about an hour at a rest stop though.

As we got closer to Niagara Falls, NY, we saw these signs leading us to where we were going.

Then we waited in line at the border crossing before being harassed by a border officer about why we were there. "Visiting the Canada side of the Falls" is not a valid reason to visit their country apparently.

We finally were welcomed in however.

Then we found a place to park for free all day, met up with Ryan and Carissa when they arrived and headed out into the Canadian world.

This was our first view of the falls.

We decided to do the Maid of the Mist boat tour first.

The ride was wet, so we got these stylish raincoats.

The boat got quite close to the falls and we got really wet. The horseshoe falls are amazing that close up. I should have worn sandals.

Walking along the path above the river, we saw a rainbow form over the falls. I took a lot of pictures, a few of which came out nice.

Next we went on the Journey Behind the Falls. When you come out on the deck, you are really close to the side of the horseshoe falls and the sound is deafening. It's an extraordinary sight to see all that power rushing down that close to you.

This is another place that requires raincoats because the water just keeps pouring in.

It's a great view of everything from out on the deck, but it's hard to get a picture since the water is constantly pounding toward you.

We got some smoothies and yogurt mixed with fresh fruit at Yogen Fruz after our walk. It's a great place, I wish they would bring it closer to Jersey.

At night, they light up the falls with giant spotlights. It looks great in the dark.

They shine all different colors, changing them up every few minutes.

They even shot off fireworks that night for us. It was a pretty great thing to see. That makes up for the fireworks we missed on the fourth.

We went and found our hotel after that to get some much needed rest.
