The meetings were nice and easy at Silver Run. I sat in a first grade class while they decorated Valentine's Day bags with hearts. I had about two hours so I went home and had lunch, caught up on some shows, and called Comcast because the internet was out. I came back after lunch for two more meetings and I was done by 2.

I went to Anytime Fitness to pick up some free passes and, since I was right there, I decided to finally get that haircut I've been talking about for a while now. The lady who did it took a long time, but she was nice. I don't think I like it as much as the last time I got it done, but at least I know it will grow fast.

After spending one full hour talking to the Comcast rep trying to get the new modem working I was done and I headed to Becca's to spend the night with Lilo watching movies. I think she enjoyed them. I got into a movie binge starting with Joshy, which I really liked. Subsequently I watched Drinking Buddies and Search Party. I'm enjoying that genre right now. I got to bed pretty late, but it's okay because I napped a little on the couch.

Dec 12, 2016

I worked at Memorial as the same English teacher from last week with the same classes and the same instructions. This time I brought movies to influence them to do their work. I told them we'd watch the movies if they all finished their work. None of the first two classes accomplished getting all the work done, but they all worked and handed things in which is an improvement. During the third block with the other teacher I didn't need to do anything and we watched Finding Nemo for a little bit after lunch. Not a bad day.

During my downtime I had sent a few emails about setting up interviews and Lucinda Grange got back to me quickly about doing the interview tomorrow. I got to work planning the whole thing and then left school to get a haircut. I finally decided to go for something different I've wanted to do for some time. I ended up liking the result. I spent the next few hours at home doing some research and getting my gear together.

I went to Ryan's later where we decided to play through the full Goldeneye game. We got a few levels from the end before we were tired and decided to save the rest for later. I went to Becca's afterward to catch up on the Walking Dead winter finale. It was a bit of a disappointing episode, but they seemed to try to cram too much into it and make it more dramatic than anyone really could care about. The show has become weird. Becca and I talked about some future plans and then I headed home to attempt to sleep.

I had meeting at Landis School today, and it turned out to be a very open schedule. I got there at 8:30 and didn't have any meetings until 11:30. I decided to use this time to my advantage and went out for breakfast and then to get a haircut. The woman who cut my hair was very awkward and told me she only had certain razor guards for her clippers so I couldn't get the length I asked for. I suggested she ask to use the other stylist's and, after exhaling, she did it.

After that fun I took some photos of the Vineland Electric factory and then returned to cover meetings for the rest of the day. I ended up getting out a little early as well. I went to the park where I ended up playing 9 holes with a guy that I've seen there before. He's a regular apparently. We had a good game, and then Ryan showed up for our run. Time to start some training for the Tough Mudder as it's coming up really soon.

Brenda suggested getting Moe's so we went there and ate our bowls before heading up to the rock gym. We met Meg and her friend there and had a good time climbing, switching off partners. I didn't climb quite as well as last week, but I did manage to do the yellow that has been tormenting me for weeks! It seemed like we tired out a little earlier this time, so we called it a night early.

I woke up in the morning to a phone call telling me that my job had been canceled because the teacher came back from jury duty. I have no idea why I was informed that late; they must have known. I didn't get another job so I went and got a haircut then went to Target to get a new pair of headphones. Finally! A pair that work!

Brenda and I went to the post office so she could drop off her passport renewal forms so we can leave the country soon. We went up to the rock gym and decided to start with bouldering. I haven't done it in a long time, but it was fun. It's still much harder.

It was a good warmup, but I still prefer belaying. I think we are going to stick with bouldering first and try to get better at it. Brenda had to be at a yoga class so I dropped her off at her gym and then went to my gym to do an inclined run on the treadmill and an ab circuit. I was feeling full from eating on the way home so I couldn't do as much as I wanted.

The best job I could get was a half day so I had the morning to do some things that needed doing. Like getting my hair cut. The woman that cut it was so awkward and unfriendly though.

I went to the park for a run and tripped on a little stump in the first minute. Haven't had a skinned knee in a while. I ran five miles and stopped because I had to get to work. I substituted a fifth grade class. It was an easy day; they watched a movie, went to lunch, played on computers, and had art class.

I finished packing for the weekend and Kate picked me up and took me down to AC Convention Center for two days of Beer Fest! True, I'm working it, but it's still exciting.

The building is massive and was relatively empty of people when I got there. The vendors were setting up and putting out their signage and icing down the kegs. I got the lay of the land and then tried to get some pre-doors beer.

I got a couple of beers from nearby tables before the doors opened. I sipped them down and then did some video of everyone setting up.

The New Jersey Craft Beer table was right in the cluster of Jersey breweries, fittingly. We had a nice spot and some great neighbors. Carton's Milk Stout was pretty good and Cape May Brewery brought their Honey Porter. Oh, and how could I forget Turtle Stone Brewery from Vineland had a Chocolate Milk Stout. Yes.

Chuck came down with Brian using the tickets he won from NJCB and we began the great tasting. I really started slacking off on the photography when we started going around trying things. We did our best to hit up as many tables as possible.

Among my favorites of the night were definitely the Innis & Gunn Scottish Stout and Blue Point White IPA. Solid beers. There were a ton of other great beers I tried, including my first taste of mead, which is similar to wine, but they use honey instead of grapes. It has a really interesting taste and seems quite versatile.

The night was a blur and a success. I met some great people and tried more beers than I can count. The night fest finished its first session with Marky Ramone's band playing a set before they called last call and gave everyone the boot.

We all went to Vagabond for the NJCB after party with a special beer called SS NJCB brewed by Carton. It was strong and I was not in the mood for more beer, especially strong stuff. We sat at a table in the back and I ended up heading back to the hotel room early when Brian and Chuck were ready to leave.

I had a business class at the Senior High which was better than I expected it to be. The students all did their assignments and were relatively quiet in the process.

I came home and downloaded the new blink-182 album and then went for a bike ride around town to listen to it. I love it. It's different in a really good way. Also, this part of the river path broke off during the storm flooding.

I went to get a haircut that was much overdue. I think I have the same small talk conversation with the person that cuts my hair every time.

I went for a run through the cemetery and the old neighborhood and then came home and showered before I met Jess at the Oar House for a couple of drinks. One drink, really.

After our short meeting and one beer I came home and went to bed so I could get close to enough sleep before working again.

I got up and felt particularly hairy so I shaved and went for a haircut. I think my stylist was the least talkative I've ever heard one. I did more talking and she seemed uninterested. I stopped myself from trying to help the women standing around a laptop to figure out how to log into their e-mail.

I went over to Parvin's to sit and read for a while. It was really humid out, just didn't want to be inside. I came home and had a smoothie and later took the rest of the raspberries to Corson Park where I sat and read for a little longer.

I decided to go down to Ocean City, where I could sit and enjoy the scenery while I read. I read a bunch and watched people wandering down the beach, including a lady with a metal detector. She was the most interesting.

The sun slowly set behind me as the wonderful breeze turned slightly chilly. After getting through a bit of the book I packed up and headed back to the car. Foot washing things are the best.

I came home and edited some photos and made some lists before bed.

May 12, 2011

I worked an English class at Memorial during the day. We read/watched Romeo and Juliet. It wasn't so bad except for a few students. There's always a few. I haven't seen the movie in a long time and I didn't remember the cast being so good.

I met Chuck for lunch after work at Wildflower. The place is becoming addictive. The food is so good and so vegan.. I wish they were open more days.

I headed down the road and got a much-needed haircut after eating. For once I was actually pretty happy with the haircut I got. I'm the worst at describing what I want.

Joanna came down and we played a game of disc golf at South Vineland Park. I wasn't really feeling it, but we played through all except the last hole.

I came home and read for a lot of the night. I read through some of Demetri Martin's book, but I got tired of the format so I went to something with a story.

After reading I watched some shows until I got tired and went to sleep.

This time I actually got to the bus early and got some breakfast from Jazzman's for the ride. It seemed like most of Westby was on the bus. It was pretty quick trip; we hit some traffic and stopped at a rest stop for some reason, but we got to New York in good time.

We went to Grand Central to meet Susan and found out we had a break before anything was going on because we pushed back our meeting time.

Alex and I met up with Nathan, who just happened to be walking down the same block in Midtown.

We went to Maoz for delicious falafel and hung out in the window acting like mannequins to promote the place. We didn't have a lot of time to hang out so we had to eat quickly and then run off.

We went to Piscatello Design for a "tour" of the office. It was really just one big room with a few desks. It was really cool though. They had some really amazing pieces that they have designed. They have a signature look and they get some high end clients that ask for them. Rosco told us some stories about being in the business and designing things. He's hilarious and really good at what he does. I'd love to work there.

After the inspirational talk, Alex and I separated from the group once more and went to Whole Foods and then to Jamba Juice so I could have a delicious smoothie while she made peppery lemonade with her fresh ingredients.

We walked around Chelsea to a few paper and art supply stores looking for portfolios and to a camera shop where I almost got a lens. I might go back for it if I can't find a better deal somewhere.

We went to the Whole Foods at Union Square and got some food for the ride home and then headed up Broadway to catch our bus. It seemed like a long trip home for some reason. Maybe because everyone was sleeping.

Unfortunately we got back too late to catch Max's opening, but everything looked great. It's nice to have a jewelry show there; I don't think I've ever seen an all-jewelry show. He does really good work.

I went over to Rowan After Hours to get my free haircut for "guy's night." I had to wait a while, but I got to watch Heather get a mohawk as well. I'm not thrilled with how this guy cut my hair. He did a pretty half-ass job, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I came home after my cut and got to bed somewhat early. I was quite tired from walking around all day.

I went and had a haircut (finally) and a nice conversation with the girl who cut my hair. After the cut I came home and went for a run around the usual route by the river. It was nice out and it felt good to not have as much hair.

I went up to school and had lunch with Kat and Heather while I waited for Keith to be ready to meet with me. I love the vegan chicken sandwich at Prof's. After some searching I found Alex who was also waiting for Keith and we had our brief meeting.

I met Mich and went into the studio for a pretty long photo shoot with a few wardrobe changes. I got some great shots that I like a lot. We did some pin-up type things and then some things in this dress with the fan on and my favorite box came back out for an appearance. We were both happy with the outcome.

There was an opening at 207 for some reason on a Wednesday night. I went so I could shoot it and have some free pizza. The paintings were really well done, as they should be since they are advanced painting students' work.

I went to the GSA meeting after the opening and listened to some really moving and sometimes funny stories. I had to cut out early unfortunately but it was nice to be back.

I made it to the Gallery meeting just a little late but in time to start the decision process of choosing the artwork that's going to be in the publication. We got through all of the physical pieces which just leaves the digital work to sort.

Kat and Heather came to Quizzo and a couple of Chuck's friends also showed up to help us out... well.. they showed up, anyway. It seemed like we were doing pretty well at times.. not so much on the sports round of course. We ended up in fifth I think. Can't complain about that I suppose.

We hung out at Heather's and had some beers. She made some tuna melts and after eating that and having a couple of beers I didn't feel well at all so I decided to call it a night early.

I felt better after a while and went to sleep after the usual nightly shows.
