Mar 7, 2012

I worked at the Senior High for an English class all day and then went to Kate's and we took a walk on the woods trails behind her house. They get confusing, but it was a good walk. Chuck and I headed up to Hoboken to Maxwell's for the Jonah show. The Brothers of Brazil opened the show. They are really entertaining and ridiculous. Their "theme song" was stuck in our heads all night.

I always say this, but Jonah played a fucking amazing set. He could basically play anything and it would just be fantastic. He played "If Ever" so it's always great to hear a Gratitude song. He also played "Hostage" which is one of my favorites to see him play live because of the insane emotion in it.

After Jonah closed with "14 - 41" we said hi to him and then headed out with the usual smiles upon our faces. However many times I've said or written it it's still true that I simply feel better after a Jonah show. It's a great feeling.

Our final day we spent at Okemo. This was another huge mountain. We would need more than a day to properly explore, but we did the best we could.

It was a lot of fun, and we found some good trails to race on. It's always hard to leave after spending a few days on the slopes, but we knew we'd have to do it eventually.

Once we managed to leave the mountain we pulled off our ski boots happily and began the long drive back home. We made a couple of quick stops for food or bathrooms on the way back, but otherwise it was straight through to home. And I was ready to sleep when we got there.

We headed over to Stratton for day two and we were not disappointed with this one. It was plenty big and it had a lot of choices for advanced runs. I really like the bear on the sign.

It was a beautiful day for skiing and we spent the whole day there with a break for lunch in the middle. Vermont skiing is very different from PA. It just feels like everyone knows what is going on.

Another nice thing about Vermont is that some of the resorts have gondolas instead of chair lifts. It's really nice to be able to sit or lean and take your hat and gloves off, even if it is briefly.

When we finished for the day we realized there weren't really many places we could find food and decided to eat at Mulligan's, a restaurant at the resort that had ribs. We got them to share along with nachos because they want to charge if you share plates of food. I never understood that and I won't do it. We had a good meal and then headed back to our room to hang for the rest of the night.

We headed over to Bromley for our first day of skiing. The mountains always look big from afar, but when we got there it was a little smaller than we expected.

We had a decent day of skiing, but we didn't love it so we aren't planning on going back. After three or four hours we had had enough and we headed out.

On the way back to the hotel we stopped so I could take some photos along the river. I really liked the rocks in the flowing water that still had snow on them. It was just generally pretty there.

We went to India Palace for dinner and had some great food. I wanted to stop by McNeill's brewpub to see what they had to offer since it was just across the street. I got a couple samples and then we headed out.

We retired to our room for the night and got to bed early.

Ryan and I began our drive to Vermont in the afternoon. When we got to Brattleboro, we went downtown to Flat Street Pub. I got a couple of beers and we got some good food.

We went to our hotel room and settled in for the night to get ready for a weekend of skiing.

After I worked at the Senior High in a science class Kate and I went down to Sea Isle with Jack. We went to Nathan's beach house and had a few beers from the River Horse sampler pack we got and then we took Jack out to the beach to throw the ball around. He really enjoyed the beach and I got some great shots of him going for it.

After we spent too long watching him run at full speed and stop in the sand, we went back to the house for some more beers and then headed home. We went over to Christie's later and watched a movie. It was a nice night to end the week.

Mar 1, 2012

I worked all day at the Senior High for a math class and had coverage for another class on my off period. I then went directly back to work at Alternative School for a science class.

Alternative School is always pretty easy, but it's just a long day. I went home and relaxed watching shows for the rest of the night when I got done. Twelve hours at the same building is exhausting.
